What is the biggest need of the Selectmen and how would you work to solve that need?
I see the biggest need of the Board of Selectmen as transparency. Secondly to clearly communicate the explanation for all decisions. I have found that many decisions and motions made at public meetings seem to have been decided prior to it coming to the public. I appreciate understanding the rationale behind a decision of a yay or nay vote. Additionally, I believe that there needs to be a mutual respect for every member of the community. Whether you agree or disagree with someone, each individual should be respectful and understanding. The Board of Selectmen needs to affirm their understanding of the public statements made and then state their own opinion and rationale for their position.
I like the BOS agenda where at the first of each meeting the public is allowed to comment directly to the members on about any subject that the BOS has control over. However, I wish that the BOS would also open each individual agenda item for possible public comment as they progress through the meeting agenda before voting on it. The public needs to hear agenda item testimony, BOS discussion then have it opened to the public for citizen viewpoints before performing a BOS vote on it.
